Is an annual celebration of new music that explores contemporary Canadian musical expression. We celebrate new work and present recent works deserving of a larger audience. Over the last several festivals the WCMF has developed an artistic vision that reflects its commitment to a set of core values. Each year we feature the work of four or five North American composers. In cooperation with the School of Music at the University of Windsor, we perform multiple works by our featured composers. We choose to feature composers from across the country and of different generations, and aim for a diversity of musical styles and voices. With each festival we try to feature at least one emerging composer who will benefit greatly from the opportunity to compose a new work for orchestra. Ultimately, we look for composers who have a mature musical voice and for whom this opportunity will represent a significant step in their artistic development. Of course, we also choose composers that we are confident will compose an engaging new work that will appeal to our local audience. As noted above, the WCMF is a partnership between the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and the University of Windsor School of Music. In addition to the premiere of the commissioned orchestral works, School of Music faculty will present a recital of chamber music by the featured composers.

A gunman shot eight people and killed one early Sunday morning after a sprawling music festival in California that featured Waka Flocka Flame, Tech N9ne and dozens of other performers, Modesto police said Sunday. The shooting occurred outside a warehouse a few miles from the festival, in an industrial section of Modesto, the police said in a release. "While attendees were waiting to get into the party, a black male adult walked into the parking lot and started shooting." police said. The gunman was not identified, and it was unclear why he opened fire. Zachary McGee, 25, died at the hospital, the release said. Two unidentified victims — a 23-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man — remained in critical and serious but stable condition, while five others were treated and released. The concert, called the X Fest, bills itself as the "biggest party" in California's Central Valley. This was its 15th year, and its lineup included 120 bands on 13 stages across 15 city blocks, drawing 20, 000 people, according to the festival's Facebook page. Festival promoter Chris Ricci told NBC News the party was an "unsanctioned" and "unpermitted" event, and that it was not officially connected to X Fest.

Festivals in USA range from music, to food, to arts and crafts and more. Music festivals are a popular option among festivalgoers in the USA. Lineups regularly consist of an assortment of music that includes pop, hip-hop/rap, electronic, rock, jazz, and the blues, and ranges in notoriety from main stream artists to local acts. Some of the more popular USA music festivals have become world renown. No matter whether visitors are looking for an electronic music festival experience that can be found at ULTRA in Miami, or more of an alternative and indie scene at Coachella in California, there are plenty options for any music connoisseur. The USA even holds the “World’s Largest Festival” at Summerfest in Wisconsin according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Food festivals and art festivals are another top choice for festivalgoers in the USA. Held mostly over weekends, food festivals provide an array of options for foodies visiting these festivals that include anything from barbeque competitions and chili cook offs to gourmet style burgers with wine pairings. Along the same line, art festivals typically consist of a weekend and provide visitors with glimpse into high level art ranging from paintings to ceramics with a flair of local festival’s culture.

It’s a 3 day affair as usual, ( with a Friday 13th in the middle) that will be forged on values of the first eight cycles, but tuned up with all the luxuries that Camp HRH has to offer. With more than 50 bands from around the globe, that the front line ( our fans) voted for, will be descending on Wales for the ninth cycle, we are truly excited to stage the all famous HRH experience one more time. As promised, well be visiting all sides of the rock n metal spectrum as usual. Expect some particular focus on the old school classic rock n metal as well as the Sleaze n Blues brigade as feature stages. Classics, legends n surprises et all... as per the norm.

A new festival is coming to the O2 next June. The Stone Free Festival will be headlined by Alice Cooper and Rick Wakeman. Taking place at The O2 Arena on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June, the event boasts the very best in classic rock music across two 12-hour days and multiple stages. Shock rock master Alice Cooper said of his exclusive UK show: “Coming to the UK is always like coming home for us, fans in the UK are always high energy, always there. Headlining the very first Stone Free Festival at London’s The O2 in June next year is an example of why we feel so welcome. “It will be my only performance in the UK next year, so that makes it even more special. And as always with my show you can expect the unexpected!" Prog-rock legend Rick Wakeman will be performing his seminal album ‘The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table’ in its entirety for the first time since 1975. He said: "After the success of the ‘Journey To The Centre Of The Earth’ shows last year, I’m over the moon to have the opportunity to perform ‘King Arthur’ for the first time since 1975 with an orchestra and choir. It’s going to be wonderful!" Joining them are the mighty Marillion, Southern rockers Blackberry Smoke and ex-Genesis axeman Steve Hackett. As well as the phenomenal live music there will also be special acoustic performances, Q&As with headline performers, cinema screenings at the STONE FREE picture show, a vinyl fair, specialist market stalls, classic album playbacks, Rock Royalty VIP packages, craft beers and street food alongside the established award-winning restaurants.

Next summer's CMA Music Festival — which is downtown Nashville's largest tourist draw of the year — likely will feature yet another venue for live performances. Sarah Trahern, CEO of the Country Music Association, said her organization expects to incorporate the new Ascend Amphitheater into the programming for the four-day event. The brief, preliminary preview was part of a speech and interview Trahern gave Tuesday at the Nashville Business Breakfast, co-hosted by Lipscomb University and the NBJ. Nathan Morgan | Nashville Business Journal Last summer's CMA Music Festival broke records (again), attracting 87, 680 fans a day. That's almost a 10 percent increase from 2014's then-record showing, coming at a time when international tourists are flocking to Nashville in record numbers and the genre of country has achieved dominant mainstream status, underpinning Nashville's "Music City" branding. It's a reminder not to discount the role country's widespread popularity plays in making the ABC show "Nashville" viable and attractive to viewers, dovetailing with Nashville's newly cultivated "It City" national profile that is attracting new residents and business expansions. "How do we continue to grow an event that in some ways has already matured? How do we grow it, but keep it intimate?" Trahern asked. Next summer's CMA Music Fest will be the 45th edition, and the 16th since the event grew by moving to Lower Broadway, instead of the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. One way, Trahern said, is featuring additional concerts during the festival at Ascend Amphitheater, which is located in SoBro and has capacity for 6, 800 attendees. Trahern said the 2016 CMA Music Fest probably will feature daytime performances at the amphitheater. Such daytime shows historically have been free at all the other stages set up around downtown during CMA Music Fest. "We may do night shows in future years, " Trahern said. Historically, the festival's nightly concerts at Nissan Stadium have cost money to attend; the stadium is set up to hold about 50, 000 concertgoers for those shows. CMA is a nearly 60-year-old trade group, originally formed to promote the genre and now probably best known for the annual Country Music Association Awards, which just occurred earlier this month.

So why am I doing a Folk play list? Because hints of Folk are turning up everywhere, and a lot of it is so good. Our parents had Bob Dylan and Joan Biez, and now we have Bon Iver and The Low Anthem. It is now just dawning on me how prevalent and important Folk music has always been. This month's play list is "Folk" in the loosest terms. All the artists below have embodied some element of Folk music in there songs and in their general sound (and if you look on their Myspace pages, you'll see that most of them give a "shout out" to one or more Folk artist in their influences section). If you never fancied yourself a Folk enthusiast, I encourage you to take a listen to this playlist. It might surprise you...it certainly surprised me. Michael Anderson Michael Anderson is the founding partner of, an independent music and entertainment company based in Los Angeles and London. His clients include Paramount Television, Sony Pictures, EMI (UK), The Naim Labels, The Local, Burberry, Kipling Media, and various artists worldwide.

Life’s just better when the sun is shining. To get you ready for another epic summer, we’ve compiled a list of the best cities to spend those heavenly months. From chic beach locations to lively coastal metropolises, we’ve found the perfect places for you to soak up the sun while having some (city) fun. 1. Miami, USA Who hasn’t dreamt of chilling out on Miami Beach? Few cities in the world can compete with Miami, especially in the summer when the nights are longer and the parties are wilder. Blessed with sublime beaches and world famous nightlife – Miami is truly one of a kind. It’s as glamorous as portrayed on the big screen and as diverse as any city on Earth. Avoid the city’s crowds by heading to the quiet white sands of Virginia Key or experience what makes Miami “Magic City” at South Beach: Ride along Miami Beach Boardwalk to Ocean Drive’s Art Deco District where Latin America meets the US-of-A. 2. Barcelona, Spain Barcelona is one of the world’s premier beach destinations but don’t be fooled into thinking the Catalan capital is only good for some sandy shores – this is a city with a big C. Wander the city’s sun-soaked, Mediterranean streets and be sure to go on a culinary adventure by visiting tapas bars in the historic Ciutat Vella district. After taking in the sunset from Park Guell or Mt Tibidabo, head to the likes of Passeig del Born or Plaça de Sol- popular squares close to bars and clubs. And, of course, there is the beach- perfect for an early morning dip after a night out. 3. Nice, France Barcelona isn’t the only beautiful beach city in Europe. Nice, nestled on the French Riviera in the south of the country, boasts pristine beaches and elegant palm tree-lined boulevards for you to enjoy in the sunshine. While Cannes and Monaco are more glamurous, Nice has a more laid-back, authentic vibe, mixing the Riviera’s glamour with traditional cuisine and seaside life. Promenade des Anglais is the heart of the city with swarms of people strolling, jogging or simply kicking back on one of the world’s most famed boardwalks. 4. Cape Town, South Africa Cape Town is a city where natural beauty meets modern urban landscapes. Reach the summit of Table Mountain on a clear, summer’s day to experience sweeping vistas of this seaside gem. From Table Mountain, you can observe Cape Town’s rugged coastline and the bustling city center where traders and shoppers haggle for the best price at the likes of St George’s Mall and Greenmarket Square. The white sands of Camps Bay are the perfect tonic to a day exploring this energetic city. Make sure to try out the surf and turf dishes served in restaurants that overlook the bay. 5. San Diego, USA San Diego is blessed with a plethora of world-class beaches and balmy weather almost all-year round. After chilling out on the iconic Mission Beach and becoming a true American by rollerblading along its boardwalk, scuba among the purposely sunken ships of San Diego’s Wreck Alley, ride the waves of Pacific Beach or go snorkelling off the coast of La Jolla Shores. To fuel up, enjoy some of San Diego’s legendary street food: From classic American hot dogs to burgers and fish tacos- these treats will keep you going late into the night. Our tip: Head out to the Gaslamp Quarter for a great night out. 6. Tamarindo, Costa Rica There’s a reason visiting Costa Rica is on so many people’s bucket lists- it’s a stunner. Located on the nation’s Pacific Coast, Tamarindo has the surf, beautiful beaches and a fun nightlife. Add in the national parks nearby – bursting with vibrant wildlife – and you have a winning combination. Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas borders Tamarindo and it’s a perfect place to relax on the beach, scuba and help in the conservation of leatherback turtles’ coastal habitats. Costa Rica is also an adventure hotspot: Take your pick from wild rapids, adrenaline pumping zip-lines and bungee jumps. 7. Honolulu, USA Hawaii boasts some of the planet’s most awe-inspiring landscapes and Honolulu is the perfect base for exploring this Pacific wonderland. Hawaii’s capital is home to a distinctly laid-back beach culture – people there actually consider surfing over lunch to be normal and flip flops to be acceptable office footwear. The famed Waikiki beach is a short walk from the buzz of Kalakaua Avenue- Honolulu’s main strip. Make sure you spend some time exploring Diamond Head, the volcano that looms over the city, and hiking through lush jungle to Manoa Falls. Secluded coves and beaches are also common here – Hanauma Bay, for example, is a must-see.
